These machines are commonly known as Building Maintenance Units (BMU) and can come in all shapes and sizes with hundreds of optional functions.

The shape and size of the building they are designed to serve, primarily determines the characteristics of these machines.

Examples of types of machines are:

Static Single Jib Roof Machines

Traversing Single Jib Roof Machines

Traversing Twin Jib Machines

Examples of movement functions:

Telescopic jib to increase and decrease the reach (length of jib).

Telescopic Mast to increase and decrease the height of the machine (usually for parking)

Slewing jibs to access different parts of the building.

Slewing jib head (cradle suspension points) to ensure the cradle is parallel with the facade.

Traversing machine on twin steel tracks to reduce the size and weight of the machine.

Hydraulically Luffing of the jib and Counterweight to aid with parking.

Mechanically moving counterweight to provide a more balanced machine as the load is telescoped in and out.

We can supply bespoke davits for most requirements. Previously davits have been manufactured up to 4m tall and 4.5m reach.

The davits can be used for lifting materials, suspending cradles and also used for abseiling.

If you have a large enough area on the roof and bases can be placed and supported structurally then a davit could be the solution for you.

Pros:

They do not require a lot of on going maintenance and are very robust.

They are unlikely to require a call out.

They are relatively low upfront capital cost and are quick to manufacture and install.

Cons:

They require significantly more rigging and set up time making the cleaning of the facade a longer process.

There are increased residual risks due to the rigging of the equipment on the edge of the roof.

We can supply bespoke or standardised davits which can be constructed on a roof area not requiring permanent fixing to the structure. Dependant on application they could be as short as 2m but some are up to 6.5m long, with a reach from the front support legs of around 2m.

All parts are designed to be lifted by hand so less than 20kg for a one person lift or 40kg for a two person lift.

These davits can be used for lifting materials, suspending cradles and also used for abseiling.

If you have a large enough area on the roof and bases can be placed and supported structurally then a temporary davit could be the solution for you.

Pros:

They do not rely on installation of fixings and can be removed from site when no longer required.

In comparison to alternatives can represent a cost saving.

Cons:

They require skilled engineers to construct and is fairly lengthy process.

There are increased residual risks due to the rigging of the equipment on the edge of the roof and the high number of parts to be carried.

Using a market leader supplier we can provide bespoke solutions for almost any abseiling/ rope access equipment requirement at height.

Products include:

Eyebolt anchors fixed to the majority of substrates.

Abseiling rails and monorails, usuallu overhead but also can be used horizontally near an edge or at an angle on a sloped facade.

Abseiling Davits, which can be small enough to carry around the roof as needed for each location.

Powered traversing davits to move horizontally around the facade or even up an inclined parapet.
